Illinois Social Security Disability Lawyers

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative neurological disorder caused by the death of dopamine-generating cells in the midbrain.  The most obvious early symptoms of the disease include motor function disabilities, such as shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulties walking.  As the disease progresses, cognitive and behavioral problems, such as dementia, sleep problems, emotional instability and sleep disorders, may arise.

If you have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, you may be eligible for Social Security disability benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). Parkinson’s disease is listed under Section 11.06 of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) “Listing of Medical Impairments.” In order to qualify for disability benefits under Section 11.06, you must show that you suffer from significant rigidity, bradykinesia (slowness of movement,) or tremor in two extremities (such as both legs, or an arm and a leg), that results in prolonged movement difficulties (including both movement of your limbs and smaller hand movements) or an abnormal rate of walking.

A skilled disability attorney can guide you through the entire disability application process to ensure that the appropriate medical and vocational information is included with your social security disability application.  At Ankin Law our knowledgeable Chicago social security disability attorneys have considerable experience assisting clients with the entire claim process – from application filing to hearing.

We will help prepare and review Social Security forms that must filed with the SSA as part of the claim process.  We review the medical documentation regarding your Parkinson’s disease and determine whether any additional supporting documentation may be needed.  After your application is filed, our Chicago social security disability attorneys will closely monitor the status of your claim and promptly notify you of any developments or requests for additional information.  If necessary, we will prepare you for, and advocate on your behalf at, your social security disability benefits hearing.
